What does "PUSH" Marketing stand for?

Nobody has ever asked this, so in full disclosure, this is simply an explanation in case anyone has ever wondered about our use of PUSH in our marketing materials. In fact, we don't usually use the word PUSH, rather, our marketing slogan spells it out...

The concept of PUSH goes far beyond the idea of "Push Marketing," which is a marketing technique; In fact, our idea of PUSH is far beyond that concept. Does Make it Active have a resellers permit?

When setting up an account with new vendors, it sometimes gets frustrating when they are in another state; as they don't always have information about taxes in all 50 states. This frequently asked questions page is to address this question when we are setting up a resellers account with any of our vendors.

The state of New Hampshire does not have a state sales tax. We also do not have an income tax. So, we would not have any kind of sellers permit, as it is not legally required in our state. Do you only work with clients in NH, ME, VT, and MA?

We work with a few national and international clients, but the majority of our clients that we work with are local because we feel our clients are best served if they can meet face to face. Working with long distance companies can make it difficult, especially when you trust them to manage your website, review your marketing strategies, or perform a number of other services. In our experience, it creates more travel for our team, and increases costs. To eliminate this, when our company relocated to Dover, New Hampshire, we sold off our portfolio of clients, and basically started from scratch here in NH. Since we are an SEO agency, we weren't too worried about not coming up on top again.

We knew our experience and expertise would help our business grow. We also knew the trouble of working with long distance clients. In fact, in 1999, we relocated from the Bay Area, to Los Angeles, and after spending over a year flying back and forth to meet with clients, we decided then it was best to mainly work with local clients at our new location. When we decided to relocate to New Hampshire, we were confident that our portfolio of work, our expertise in search engine optimization, and our website design references would help us start again; and fortunately, we were right! We have been fortunate to be embraced by the New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts business communities and look forward to serving all of our local clients!

Should our company outsource?

You could have a terrific marketing department that sets goals, follows plans, and helps to be the backbone for a company. However, in many companies, this is not the case. The biggest problem with most marketing departments is inefficiency and complacency. While it may be easy to simply blame the employee, it could be for a number of reasons.

For one, some marketing departments will fill many positions, costing the company a lot of money. While this can be good for business, and can provide a lean marketing machine, in most cases it is simply a resource expenditure that does not increase revenue, but rather “get’s the job done.”

In some cases, the marketing director, or manger has been in management so many years and doesn’t understand the basics in timelines or effective management. In no way am I saying they are not educated in the field of Marketing, but rather, they may not be in touch with current marketing techniques, or understand what it is exactly that the web designer, or marketing coordinator, or product manager actually does.

Most managers have some background in other areas of marketing, however, in my experience, many fall short because they do not understand how long a certain project will take, or do not know the process that it takes to create a website, perform seo (search engine optimization), or design a graphic or logo.

In essence, they could be hindering success because either the employees take their time completing projects, going as far to drag out a project because the “boss doesn’t know,” on the other side, they may be expected to perform miracles and their own judgment on completion is not taken into account. So, this goes both ways.

That is where we come in. We can either help make your marketing department more efficient, or we can provide complete outsourced marketing solutions for your company. How do you keep your prices reasonable?

We keep our prices low on most projects because we are efficient in our marketing process, and practice lean marketing, with a focus on ROI. In fact, we were one of the first companies to use the internet as the primary source of communication with our customers when we first started. We do work in person as well and have traveled to meet potential clients. We also work on-location for special marketing projects that require a more hands-on approach. Our goal is to reduce the amount of costs associated with doing business through lean marketing; because ROI is as important to us, as it should be to your business or organization.

Another reason our prices are reasonable is because we only charge for what the client needs. If you want us to build a $10,000 website, and pay for large SEO packages, but we feel you would better benefit from a much more inexpensive website and SEO package; than we setup a plan that we feel best meets your budget. In fact, though we sometimes come in higher than what some customers would expect, we have surprised quite a few customers, when we quoted a price much lower than what they told us their budget was. That's because our goal is long-term customers, rather than making a lot of money quick off of short term customers.

Do you have a portfolio of your work?

Yes. We often show examples of our work to potential clients. However, we do not have a portfolio page on our website due to non-disclosure agreements that we have signed for our clients. We focus on being a resource for our clients, not a billboard for ourselves. We have been working in the marketing and web development industry since 1994.

We know what it takes to market a product or service. We are not designers that "do" marketing. We are marketing professionals that offer design services; there is a big difference.

Does Make it Active outsource overseas?

No. We personally handle all projects. We are an American owned business located in Dover, New Hampshire. If the workload was ever too much for us, we would hire more people (locally) to help. We feel very strongly about keeping jobs in the United States and do not outsource any of our work. We also take personal responsibility for all the work we do, and when clients need a change on their website, though we quote 48 hours, we sometimes do it within the hour. That doesn't happen when you outsource design services very often. We have had many competitors that do it a certain way, including simply being a company that sells web design and online marketing, but doesn't actually do any of it inhouse. We do not work like that, we do everything ourselves, in house. You can actually speak with our web developer and he'll gladly share the details of how he edited your website, though, be prepared for a long, technical, boring conversation.

We are an American company, and only employ people in the United States. We understand when it makes business sense to outsource overseas, but when it comes to SEO, Web Design, and traditional and online marketing, we feel strongly that you get what you pay for and that you would be much better served using local services, such as ours.

We are constantly asked by companies in India, etc. if we want to outsource our search engine optimization, search marketing, web design, or some of our marketing services. Some who contact us from overseas don't seem to understand what "no" means, so I will attempt to clarify: Make it Active offers outsourcing services for companies that would otherwise fire their marketing department and reduce spending on marketing; thus, to help grow the marketing department, and/or the company that employs us. However, by outsourcing, we mean, that we do the work here, locally, in New Hampshire (or possibly other states in this country). We do not hire outsourcing companies from any other country. Hopefully this disclaimer can be understood by other nations, as we get a lot of spam about our interest in "outsourcing." Again, we don't outsource, we are a marketing company that other businesses outsource to. We hire others, but not in other countries...

Yes, we offer printing services to all of our clients. We have been in the business of marketing for many years, and know the printing industry very well. We work with some of the best printers in the area to get you the best possible rates. In fact, because we do a lot of printing, our rates are probably cheaper than if your company goes direct to a printer.

Make it Active offers free consultations to local businesses or organizations depending on the service requested, location, and the size of the company. Our initial consultations usually cost around $500 and include a marketing overview sheet, including recommendations on steps to take to grow your business.
